Welcome to MSE Lab

Our research focused on microbial systematics and evolution. Based on the next-generation sequencing techniques and the increasing genomic data, we attempted to investigate the evolution and speciation of some specific taxa, by using phylogenomic and comparative genomic approaches; reveal the evolutionary history of the relative enzymes belonging to various metabolic pathways; investigate the ecological adaptation mechanisms of prokaryotes from genomic and proteomic level.

Lolamicin - a new Gram-negative-selective antibiotic

Lolamicin, targeting the lipoprotein transport system, has activity against a panel of more than 130 multidrug-resistant clinical isolates, shows efficacy in multiple mouse models of acute pneumonia and septicaemia infection, and spares the gut microbiome in mice, preventing secondary infection with Clostridioides difficile.

Inference and reconstruction of the heimdallarchaeial ancestry of eukaryotes

The authors found that eukaryotes are placed, with high confidence, as a well-nested clade within Asgard archaea and as a sister lineage to Hodarchaeales, a newly proposed order within Heimdallarchaeia.
